This balanced ambiguity is why people love 'Monogatari' - and why it doesn't make for good screenshots. During the past two seasons felines have been established as symbol for the darker aspects of Hanegawa's person. In any other anime, that would have been grossly inappropriate, but the care with which 'Monogatari' has set up the moment changes everything. He approaches her, kneels down, and consoles her by petting her fluffy ears. She then collapses upon the pavement, still a cat in lingerie. Once more, she has had to rely upon Araragi to save her skin. However, if there is one moment that captures 'Monogatari' in all its elusiveness, it has to be the conclusion to Hanekawa's arc. A notable highlight is the last arc, where elements from all previous ones return, and a fan favourite character comes by to save the day. Character arcs were planned from the very start, and are brought to their conclusion with patience and care. In contrast to many a shônen, its story is not carelessly cobbled forth with every new season. But make sure to note that 'Monogatari' never veers on becoming a soap opera, despite following a familiar pattern.
